COMUN Stationery Donation

The Colombo Operated Model United Nations (COMUN) committee organized a stationery drive earlier this year. All of the Colombo based schools participating in the Model United Nations programme collected books, crayons, pens, rulers and numerous stationery items and at the end of the event, all of the accumulated items were donated to the FoG to be distributed among various schools in Sri Lanka that needed a helping hand.

During a visit in June to Ampara and Monaragala in the East, the Foundation of Goodness team had the opportunity to distribute the stationery to three most deserving schools. Each school was very unique in its own way, and all three were situated in rural and interior villages that rarely received help from outside sources. What made them all stand out was a teacher or principal whose ambitions let them dream of better educational conditions for the kids and who worked hard to achieve this goal. The Foundation was honored by the opportunity to help these schools in providing better and better resources to the children who studied there.

The large haul handed over by COMUN which included an extensive list of items including exercise books, pencils, pens, rulers, erasers, pencil sharpeners, pencil cases, crayons, colouring pencils, book marks, highlighters, files, water colours, calculators, post its, scissors, drawing books, glue sticks, clay, mathematical equipment boxes, paint brushes, water bottles and school bags was evenly divided between the schools and handed over along with a variety of children’s toys donated by FoG donors.

The Foundation of Goodness thanks COMUN for their generous and community minded activities and for taking an active role in improving rural communities.
