In pursuance of future Olympians the National Olympic Committee

joins hands with the Foundation of Goodness

Foundation of Goodness (FoG) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Olympic Committee (NOC) to harness and enhance training and development of rural talent. The signing took place at the Olympic House on 5th December 2018.

FoG has provided training, exposure and facilities to rural athletes from the all parts of provincial Sri Lanka. The skipper of the National Deaf Cricket Team, G.L. Malkam that brought home the Deaf-ICC T20 World Cup (DICC) this November, Lakruwan Wijesiri who achieved the historic feet of being the first Sri Lankan Triathlete at the 2018 Asian Games, 17 year old Kaveesha Dilhari; the youngest member of the National Women’s T20 Cricket team and Sri Lanka Youth Netball Team captain, Mandira Charuni are some of the athletes who are a part of the Foundation of Goodness sports family, having trained with FoG for many years. The Foundation also scouts for upcoming talent to nurture: their latest protégé being South Asian Junior Athletic Championship 2018, Gold Medallist, Amasha de Silva

Founder and the Chief Trustee of FoG, Mr. Kushil Gunasekera said, “This landmark achievement gives us a lot of encouragement, confidence and belief that we can do better. Hopefully with the backing and technical support from the NOC we can produce future Olympians.”

Kumar Sangakkara, a trustee of FoG added, “We are very grateful to the National Olympic Committee for having the faith that the Foundation of Goodness can deliver on the ideas that it was founded upon. Through this partnership the NOC will be training our coaches, they will be looking for athletes and housing athletes at the Foundation. Hopefully this partnership will produce future sporting greats of Sri Lanka, who will bring great honour and credit to the country and Olympic medals as well.”

President of the NOC Mr. Suresh Subramaniam said, "The hard work done by Kushil and Ashan made me believe that through joining hands with FoG, we can pursue the goal that the NOC has: to produce Olympic medallists in the future. Therefore, both NOC and FoG will work together on this mission for the betterment of Sri Lankan sports."

Speaking at the signing Mahela Jayawardena and Muthiah Muralidaran also reiterated the importance of discovering and supporting rural talent, providing them with the necessary tools and education to excel in their field.

The Foundation of Goodness believes that sports is a vehicle for upward social mobility, using a sustainable community model within villages to empower disadvantaged communities, whilst inculcating the spirit of goodness, so that they may have equal opportunities to excel in life.
