May all your good deeds reflect upon you and all your loved ones and keep everyone with eternal joy for making a better tomorrow for poor and helpless.''

"Today I came of the Foundation of Goodness south facility and was honestly blown away at how many projects were running both effectively and sustainably. I did not expect to see the kind of impact per day that I saw. I tried to really stump (the staff) with questions on longevity and fund management and (they) answered every question with ease. It seemed so good that i almost wanted to find something that was wrong with the organization, instead I left inspired. That inspiration is what I left Canada for, and hoped to find here in Sri Lanka. I did not come here to vacation, I came here to try m y best to make an impact on some peoples lives and I think that the Foundation of Goodness is dong just that.
I have a few years experience in the Non Profit sector, and with that experience I have listened to hundreds of empowerment projects now for all over the world. I can honestly say that this one was one of the best organized community upliftment programs I have seen. I have find myself yearning to know more about the organization and its functions on a deeper level. I also talked to all of the employees at your organization and they all seem extremely satisfied, and have been with the organization for years."

Dear Kushil, dear Helen,
I truly appreciate your kind words and I know you are genuine in what you express.
Of course, I also must thank both of you for the trust and faith entrusted in me. Despite many volunteers coming to work for FOG, welcoming a foreigner and treating them as part of the family is no easy task. You contributed largely to make me feel like I belong here in Sri lanka. And I know it is being said a lot, but as a naturally skeptical and critical person, I still maintain my stance that the FOG is among the top-tier NGOs out there and I will highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in getting more involved

We can’t believe this was your first youth exchange program! All of us are truly inspired by the successful impact and strategies of your foundation. As a program coordinator, I was impressed and learned a great deal about program and project development, fundraising, and nonprofit management from all of you.

Dear sir
Yesterday, we visited the place 'Foundation of Goodness' at Seenigama to take part in a program with YLP Students.
After arriving there apart from our main purpose we were able to understand the service of yours to the nation. We were amazed to see such a well organized place for the betterment of innocent children. With the support of whole world you're doing a great job for the future of our younger generation. We went with a set of underprivileged children and they couldn't believe their ears to hear that there are people like you on this earth. So I thought to express my sincere gratitude for your generosity on be half of our students.
Mr.Thushara Mendis-Manager Sports Academy, Mr.Asiri Suranga - Manager Research & developent, Ms.Dilani Weerasuriya - Manager North Development Project and Mr.Lahiru gave their fullest cooperation to make us comfortable there. Again we thank you and your team and wish you all the best to keep up the good work.

"It was with great pleasure and a sense of excitement that I joined Stephanie to the graduation ceremony. Despite your guided tour as I gazed onto the eyes of the beneficiaries and the graduates as they received their certificates I could comprehend with clarity the processes behind those celebrations - it is the beauty of your hearts, the pain of your hard work and the tears you shed when life got tough and you say to yourself 'I will stand my ground even it it deprives me of my comfort zone - it is the unrestrained commitment of a small band of workers that provided the impetus for such great a change... Making it count when it mattered... So hats off to Kushil and his valiant horsemen!!! " Zafarullah Hassim |

"In October, I visited the M.C.C. Centre of Excellence just North of Galle in Sri Lanka, which provides not only medical and dental facilities for 50 surrounding villages, but also training and education. Members will recall that it was the surplus from the M.C.C. v. International XI match at Lord's in 2005 which made all this possible. Everyone is proud of the results. Quite simply, the scheme- which I would hope to replicate closer to home- is the most inspiring and most efficiently-run community-based project I have ever seen."

Overall, the FOG concept is a great one. It is great that there are so many sectors, which allow people to explore different avenues, and thus provides the opportunity to empower a greater number of people in a greater variety of fields. This way, the locals do not have to make a living doing something they do not enjoy, and can instead make money by doing things they are genuinely interested in. The athletic facilities are incredible and really provide good opportunities for people to develop their skills and make it to national level where they can make money, as well as provides a location for exercise to keep the mind and body healthy.

The volunteer program is good as some volunteers can really benefit FOG and the local community. Volunteers can gain so much from giving to those who are less fortunate than they are, and learn so much about a foreign culture (in the case of overseas volunteers).

We have been very impressed with the work that happens at the FOG. All aspects of the Foundation from the facilities to the staff to the programs offered have exceeded our expectations in general it appears that Sri Lankan people have less material possessions than people in the UK, however in many ways they seem more contented. Although people in Sri Lanka may not be well off financially they don’t think twice about sharing what they have. Working with such selfless people has been a really humbling experience and I hope we can take some of the values I have witnessed here back to the UK.

Inspirational ! The breadth of free facilities on offer to under privileged rural people are truly remarkable. It is great to see so many people taking the opportunities offered by the FOG with both hands. People in the surrounding villages clearly adore the Foundation as was obvious when we visited the Udumulla Heartbeat Project graduation. It brings hope and focus to those who have very little and in many cases it has enabled people to go on into paid employment in order to provide for future generation of their families.

My wife and I visited the Foundation of Goodness early this month. We were greatly impressed by the work being done to help the local people. When we arrived at the Lighthouse Hotel in Galle, the girl on reception noted that I was carrying a t-shirt from the Foundation of Goodness and said that is where she had learned her computer skills and so was able to get her position at the hotel. This is one example of the wonderful work done at the Foundation....

The visitors from Gujarat & our own Rotary members were so happy that they were able to see for themselves, the transformation of a tsunami devastated village to what it is now - with housing projects, elders & children's homes, women's enterprise etc. etc.
The team members in general & the leader in particular mentioned to me last night that they have seen & got involved in many projects after the earthquake in Gujarat a couple of years back, but have not seen a well organized & a meticulous project like what they saw at Seenigama yesterday. Thank you & Podi for all your assistance provided to visit the Foundation of Goodness.

Thank you for your prompt response. I am a Sri Lankan and i just was watching travel and living channel and watched the Anthony Bourdain showand I'm very ashamed that I had to get to know about this Foundation through a program filmed and aired on a foreign network. Definitely what you have done is something beyond what any government could have done. Seeing people like you doing good to this nation actually motivated me a lot in what i plan to do in the future which is to help educate children.
I went through the website and saw how much the Foundation has spread it wings to help the people. One request- this kind of things needs to be known by many. This should not stop at Seenigama but go beyond that. I cant do much to help at the moment but I did by sharing the site on Facebook. Wish i can help the Foundation in anyway I can andIi also would like wish all the best to you Sir and the organisation. May the Blessings of the Triple Gem be with all of you.

There is a man with a good brain. Where is the man with the good heart?
There is a man with good abilities. Where is the man with good behaviour?
There is a man with good creativity. Where is the man with good spirituality?
There is a man who has responsibilities. Where is the man who has fulfilled his duties?
There is a man who has power. Where is the man who has valuable feelings?
There is a man who has money. Where is the man who has humanity?
I have found him!
The property LAHIRU which means the light rays of the sun originated from the ancestors of the Gunasekera family which was inherited by the founder/trustee of the Foundation of Goodness, Mr Kushil Gunasekera.
Kushil has created development from destruction and devastation. The 2004 Tsunami claimed the lives of 120 children, youth and elders of the Seenigama village. The stories of survival and desperation leave you speechless. Kushil talks of how after the first wave came through at about 3ft. high he made his way to the Lahiru Pre School and took the 30 children to safety up high in the temple. From their he watched as the second wave came in over 30ft. high easily clearing the coconut trees along the coastline.
I am so very pleased to see the 'light rays of the sun' Kushil and the Foundation of is shining on women of the villages. They are employed as teachers, cleaners, and empowered through education in computers, haberdashery, English, hair/beauty and photography and encouraged and assisted to move into micro businesses. My heart shines every day in Seenigama.

I'd like to show my appreciation and gratitude in giving me the opportunity to work as part of your team. It has been a real, once-in-a-lifetime experience for me. As well as a true insight to the sheer volume of work and dedication you give to the Foundation of Goodness. It really is inspiring to see the success first hand that you bring to FoG; how you take care of donors, volunteers and every staff member, all the way through to interacting with all community members. It is very difficult to describe to my family and friends in great detail what exactly FoG does and who they help (there are so many beneficiaries now) so I simply direct them to your website. - Amanda Chapple |

Dear Kushil,
Thank you very much for sending me NEP-Journey So Far. I was aware of what you were planning to do. What is amazing is what has already been done and achieved in such a short period. Fantastic !
With fond wishes,

Thanks Kushil,
For allowing me the opportunity to see the Foundation at Seenigama. I was very touched by all the kids there on the day enjoying sports and having so much fun. Frazana and Sulangan really looked after me and I could feel the transformation that the Foundation is making on the lives of not only the children but also the many more that are in the class rooms, workshops, preschool and computer labs. It is truly visionary and absolutely inspirational.
I think the business model is particularly genius, it brings rigour to the operation and shifts dependency onto personal empowerment. What you get is what you sow, there is an ethic there that people can embody and find solace and dignity in their own hard work; that in the end of the day they are the masters of their own destiny.
For me the even more heartfelt is to witness the practice of disciplined compassion in the operation of the Foundation. What the Buddha and many other great sages taught have been and can be operationalised in the legal, financial and political frameworks of today, in a model understandable to both donors and beneficiaries. This is truly an art that takes a lot of wisdom to make happen. As there are many people with good intentions but few manage to build a movement from their intentions and you have done it so eloquently.

You are truly amazing being!
I read an article about you how a writer had praised
you when you were asked " Do you want to get into politics?"
You said " I wouldn't barter my compassion for a vote"

The Public Service Medal is the highest award for someone in my occupation in Australia. I am told that the selection process is quite rigorous and that many nominations are unsuccessful. Having worked on putting together nominations for other awards in the Australian Honours system, I have an understanding of the enormous effort that goes into submitting a nomination. It was no surprise to find out that you were one of the people who had contributed to my nomination and its success. Your leadership and standing in the international humanitarian field would have carried great weight. The letter you provided is quite humbling. I agree entirely with your final comment “beauty of life does not depend on how happy we are but how happy others are because of us” .
Kushil, I have been lucky to work with some incredibly inspirational people such as you, who showed me what could be achieved through the power of positive thinking, no matter how bad things were. Your compassion and great love of people, even the scoundrels, makes me try to be a better
person.
Thank you for your friendship.
