North students visit to Colombo organized by The Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka together with Foundation of Goodness

30 students studying Music as a subject from St. Rock Maha Vidyalayam, Passaiyoor Maha Vidyalayam and Kolumputhurai Maha Vidyalayam accompanied by their school teachers had the incredible opportunity to visit and tour Colombo upon invitation by the Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka and with the kind sponsorship of Mr. Chandramohan. The visit also included the chance to attend a performance by the Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka as a special treat.

The three day visit began early on Friday the 16th of September. Leaving Jaffna at 5 a.m., the group reached Colombo in the early afternoon and went straight to lunch provided free of cost by the South Asia Gateway Terminal, following which they all participated in a DIY handcrafts workshop conducted by Ms. Thilaka Ranjini where they learnt to make cloth hair ornaments and wax candles before going on a tour of Galle Face Green and the old parliament.

Saturday was filled with sight-seeing. The kids toured the Colombo harbor after breakfast and had lunch there, returning to their accommodation centre to participate in a leadership and self-confidence building workshop conducted free of charge by Ms. Seema Ashroff. In the evening, they visited the Good Market and Independence Arcade. Dinner that night was kindly sponsored by Subway who have supported numerous FoG ventures over the years.

On Sunday, the girls had a delightful morning at the Symphony Orchestra performance followed by a delicious lunch provided courtesy of Upalis by Nawaloka. They also each received gift packs from Kandos which were kindly sponsored by the company.

The girls were in tears at the prospect of leaving and didn’t want their trip to come to an end, and we are indeed truly appreciative of Ms. Sharmini Wettimuny for organizing this event, Mr. Chandramohan for his kind sponsorship in making all this happen and all our kind sponsors and supporters, Subway, Upali’s, Kandos, South Asia Gateway Terminal and Ms. Seema Ashroff who played a big part in giving these kids a truly memorable visit.
