Graduation Ceremonies, July 2015

The time has come for the students of this year’s first intake to graduate from the various courses offered free of charge by the Foundation of Goodness for the benefit of the local rural community.

This year, we had a reason for the ceremonies to be extra special as there were students from three newly introduced courses joining the other graduands.

In an effort to keep the courses updated and relevant with regard to the needs of our students, we conducted an assessment last year to find out if there were any changes we could make to our programmes. Findings from these assessments lead us to introduce three new courses: Compering, Saree Detailing and Screen Printing.

The first intake of students for the screen printing and compering courses happened earlier this year and those students would walk across the stage to receive their certificates as the first ever beneficiaries of these courses along with the second batch of Saree Detailing students.

All the graduation ceremonies were held over the period of two days, on the 24th and 25th of July, with students from the Women’s Enterprise and Empowerment courses receiving their certificates on the 24th and all other students from our educational, vocational and business skills courses graduating on the 25th.

A special feature of all the graduation ceremonies were the truly unique and innovative oil lamps designed by the students themselves, in a display of their creativity and the ability to demonstrate something extraordinary instead of simply doing what is expected.

Major General Udaya Perera was the chief guest at the graduation ceremony on the 24th, which was a beautiful ceremony and included a bridal fashion show by the students to showcase the skills they had acquired from their courses. The total number of graduates is as follows:
