Graduation Ceremonies for Women’s Enterprise, Business Skills and IT Students

The Foundation of Goodness wishes to congratulate our most recent group of students to graduate from a variety of classes and courses. These classes target a variety of demographics from children to youth and women in an effort to provide a large range of educational and vocational opportunities for rural beneficiaries. The aim of these programmes is to empower the graduates to take control of their future and create a better life for themselves and their families.

The graduation ceremonies for 468 students from the Women’s Enterprise and Empowerment Centre (195 students from 64 villages), IT Centre (200 students from 50 villages) and Educational & Business Skills courses (73 students from 31 villages) were held on the 9th of July, 2016. The Women’s Enterprise and Empowerment Graduation took place in the morning with the attendance of Chief Guest Major General Renuka Rowel and the Business Skills and IT Graduation ceremony took place that afternoon, attended by Chief Guest Mr. Chamara Senavirathne who is a photographer and graphic designer.

Since their inception, these courses have now graduated 6,725 students, empowering them to excel at their school level education or to pursue higher education as was the case for Naleendra who entered the web design and programming courses at FoG with no prior knowledge to discover his true passion and then go on to pursue this field in his higher education and become a software engineer.

For others, it is an opportunity to gain employment or to even start their own businesses like Christina Xavier who followed the Bakery course at the Women’s Enterprise & Empowerment Centre has now started a catering business from her home, giving her the opportunity to earn an income and be her own boss thereby strongly taking control of her own destiny.

For those like Preman though, these classes have served a far greater purpose by giving them hope and reason for life to get better. After losing both legs in a vehicular accident, Preman struggled to find hope for his future success but upon discovering the free classes offered at FoG, he decided to restart his education with a sense of purpose and renewed hope.

These programmes have come to mean different things to different people but one common trait they all share is their journey to create a better and more prosperous future for themselves. So as this new group of students now enter the world having gained new experiences and expertise, we wish them all the very best in making all their dreams and ambitions come true!
