Seenigama Ladies Cricket Team Qualify for Division 1 The Foundation of Goodness has had the opportunity to help many talented young sportsmen and women from rural backgrounds harness their full potential and succeed both nationally and internationally. Especially with our strong connections to cricket between Founder Kushil Gunasekera and our amazing trustees Muthiah Muralidaran, Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardena who are legends in Sri Lankan cricket, the Foundation has always been deeply invested in developing the game of cricket in Sri Lanka. Ladies Cricket in Sri Lanka is still struggling for its place in the spotlight and the FoG Academy team ‘Seenigama Ladies’ have been steadily working towards their goal of qualifying as a Division 1 ranked cricket team for the past few years. Therefore, we are delighted to announce that they finally achieved their goal emerging as the Champions of the Women's Division 2 Inter Club Cricket tournament last month. The Seenigama Ladies already boast a number of alumni who have gone on to represent Sri Lanka in the national team including opening batswoman Yashoda Mendis, therefore it was only a matter of time before the team displayed their true talent and won a place amongst the Division 1 teams. In 2015, the Ladies were knocked out in the 1st round of the Division 2 Tournament but this year they persevered and were able to go the distance. The Division 2 finals were between the Seenigama Ladies and Palink Ladies at Bloomfield Grounds, Colombo and the Seenigama Ladies batted first, scoring 196/8 in 58 overs and then went on to limit the Palink Ladies to 160/7 in 48 overs whereby they emerged as Division 2 Champions as per the point system, qualifying to play in Division 1 from 2017. Kavisha Dilhari right hand batswoman of Seenigama Ladies scored an unbeaten 103 runs while Kavisha and Sathya Sandeepani of Seenigama Ladies made a 136 runs stand for the 6th wicket. Kavisha Dilhari also took 4 wickets. We at FoG share in their great victory and are incredibly proud to have achieved this milestone with them. We wish our team the very best of luck in all their upcoming games and hope to see more and more girls go on to represent Sri Lanka.
