Essential School Supply Pack Deliveries for the 2017 School Year The Foundation of Goodness delivered 1,852 school packs as part of the 2016 Essential School Supplies Programme ahead of the 2017 school year. While this is one of our longest running programmes, this time it was a tough struggle to raise all the necessary funds to fulfill the requests that came our way. However, we understand how important these distributions are to rural families, who do not have the financial means to purchase the yearly school necessities that will help their children make the most of their education. For many of these families trapped in poverty, a good education provides a very sturdy foundation upon which to build their hopes and dreams of a better tomorrow. To make these dreams a reality they can need more than hard work sometimes, that is where we step in to make sure they have books to write their notes on, pens to write them down with, a reusable bottle to take clean water to school with them, shoes so that they don’t have to walk barefoot to class, a box of mathematical equipment for the older students to help them achieve their dreams of becoming scientists or mathematicians… the list goes on. This year, the 1,852 packs were delivered to the following areas: Children’s Goodness Club- Seenigama Items included in the ESSP packs are as follows: Grade 1 – 4
Material for School Uniform Grade 5 – 13 A heartfelt thank you goes out to all our donors, big and small who helped make this happen, especially Children Action, Mr. Shaktha Amaratunga, Dr. Naj Nagendran, Mr. Pradeep Karunagaran and Lanka Graphite who donated over 100 packs each and of course special fundraisers held to benefit the ESSP programme by Elizabeth Moir School and the Punchline Stand-Up Comedy Show organized by Mr. Sanjay Pathmanathan. Without your support we would not have been able to put happy smiles on these children’s faces, and give them hope for a better tomorrow.
