Over the past 20 years of empowering rural disadvantaged communities, we have observed that one of the main disparities between the urban and rural populations of Sri Lanka is the lack of access to the necessary equipment to pursue their dreams. This is especially relevant to the aspiring sports men and women, who are unable to afford quality sports gear and training equipment necessary to excel!

As part of our rural sports development efforts, for many years the Foundation of Goodness has been receiving and distributing sports equipment all across rural Sri Lanka. The Foundation of Goodness is proud to have distributed over 124 cricket bags full of cricket equipment in the past 6 months, to rural schools in Sri Lanka and aspiring sports men and women.

Mr. Shyam Bhatia from India sent us 50 cricket bags full of cricket equipment, under his ‘Cricket for Care’ initiative, which were distributed all over the island, including to Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, Mannar, Anuradhapura, Batticaloa, Ampara, Monaragala, Hatton, Nuwara Eliya and Galle.

Dr. Athukorala too sent us a generous donation of second-hand cricket gear, many school items for children and cricket clothing!

A special thank you to Bill Deutrom and the Sri Lankan Sports Association of Queensland, Australia, for sending us a variety of cricket equipment, clothes and shoes. This kind donation is now being sanitized and prepared to be distributed to our Centres and other deserving cricket clubs across the island.

We cannot forget the kind donation of cricket equipment by Will Gaffney’s Bat for a Chance Charity in the UK which has been distributed to 5 rural schools in the South of Sri Lanka.

Tamara Lowe and Cricket Kindness on the other hand donated kids’ cricket equipment to rural schools in Sri Lanka! 4 rural schools were delighted to receive the equipment and began use of it immediately.

In addition, Ed Szal too sent us 5 bags of used cricket gear to be distributed to deserving students and individuals.

A huge thank you also goes to Harsha De Silva, for his magnanimous donation of cricket equipment, that was distributed to 16 rural cricket teams and schools at the Seenigama Sports Academy.

Last but not least is the outstanding contribution of Harry Solomons and Kingsgrove Sports from Australia who sent us a large shipment of sports equipment, clothing and equipment to establish a bat repair unit. While  10 deserving schools received bags full of cricket equipment in a special distribution that took place at the Seenigama Sports Academy at the OYOB Centre of Excellence with Founder Kushil Gunasekera and FoG Trustee Kumar Sangakkara and Director of the Sports Academy Anura De Silva also present, the hundreds of other bags were distributed to deserving individuals and schools all over Sri Lanka.

In addition to this 80 netball kits and football equipment and clothing was also distributed! The Foundation of Goodness continuously strives to empower rural sports men and women to reach their full potential.
