The Essential Grocery Pack distribution for the year 2021 commenced with the aim of helping just 250 families in desperate need of assistance due to COVID-19 disrupting their daily wage income and making it increasingly difficult to put food on the table. Pleas for help and heartbreaking stories were reaching us from all over Sri Lanka, as the monsoon brought floods and the greatest marine pollution disaster affected fishing communities.
However as the campaign began, we were overwhelmed and moved by the generosity of donors here in Sri Lanka and overseas, empathizing with the plight of these rural families. We are now able to provide over 2000 families from all over Sri Lanka with essential grocery packs that could provide them with temporary relief for up to 3 weeks! This eases a tremendous burden on many families, as they slowly get back on their feet.
