The Foundation of Goodness is a holistic rural development model that seeks to bridge the urban-rural divide in Sri Lanka via 10 empowerment divisions across 850+ villages island-wide, and reached over 135,000+ beneficiaries in 2023 alone by way of 20 Empowerment Centres, free of cost.
This year the Foundation of Goodness was not able to celebrate National Children’s Day with the usual myriad of games and fun competitions due to the ongoing COVID-19 health regulations and the somber background of the worst wave of COVID-19 to hit Sri Lanka.
The pandemic has also highlighted the disparities that children in rural Sri Lanka face and brought to light the many avenues of action and support needed to protect and nurture these children to become the best version of themselves.
The Foundation of Goodness continues to strive to provide rural children in Sri Lanka with unique opportunities, so that they can achieve their full potential.
Another segment of society that is even more vulnerable and helpless are the elderly. They require more care, especially during this pandemic, than ever before. The Foundation of Goodness continues to provide assistance wherever possible, to ease their worries.
Our Village Heartbeat Empowerment Centres also marked the day with acts of Kindness towards the elderly in their area.
Teachers’ Day was also commemorated across our Village Heartbeat Empowerment Centres with special thank you cards made by our beneficiaries to show their respect and gratitude towards their teachers who have persevered to ensure the continuity of their education during this pandemic time.
Our Teachers have had to adapt to the new normal in extraordinary ways and should truly be applauded for their effort, going above and beyond to make sure their students were able to learn and grow even despite the hardships brought on by the pandemic!
