Christie’s Auction of Cricket Memorabilia 2020

The Foundation of Goodness was proud to be a part of Christie’s Auction of Cricket Memorabilia, which took place during the dates of the postponed T20 World Cup, from October 27th – November 16th 2020.

Several items of cricket memorabilia was donated by cricketing legends and Trustees of the Foundation of Goodness, Muthiah Muralidaran and Mahela Jayawardena. Among these items was Muthiah Muralidaran’s treasured, record breaking 503rd ODI wicket ball, where he surpassed Wasim Akram in 2009 to become the highest wicket taker in one day games.

We are happy to announce that this treasured ball, which is a piece of cricket history, was auctioned for Rs. 2 million, the proceeds of which will help us support the many rural communities we empower, during this difficult time. We would like to thank our Trustee Muthiah Muralidaran, for his generosity and selflessness, which allowed him to part with such a precious symbol of his cricketing legacy. 

Murali has been our longest supporter and is a great humanitarian, contributing to various projects and welfare of rural communities across the country. Notably are his active endorsement of the Murali Harmony Cup for 5 consecutive years, in order to foster reconciliation and peace, the distribution of Essential School Supplies, monthly welfare projects, support for special needs development and many new projects in the works to benefit rural communities most in need.

We thank him for his constant and ardent support over the years, and look forward to empowering many more rural communities, that are in more need than ever before. Not everyone can part with such a treasure in aid of humanity, alleviating the struggles and hardships of others in need.
