The Foundation of Goodness is a holistic rural development model that seeks to bridge the urban-rural divide in Sri Lanka via 10 empowerment divisions across 900+ villages island-wide, and reached over 307,000+ beneficiaries in 2022 alone by way of 15 Empowerment Centres, free of cost.

As Covid-19 related health guidelines and travel restrictions continue, our beneficiaries continue to follow their respective empowerment courses online! It is truly remarkable as to how many have adapted to the new normal of learning, under the guidance of our staff members and coordinators all over Sri Lanka and are blossoming. We would also like to recognise our staff members who worked tirelessly to restructure their lesson plans in order to ensure the highest standard of education could still be delivered to our beneficiaries.

We are also proud that the beneficiaries did not let the difficulties of this time hinder their pursuit of a better life via the new skills gained through the various classes offered free of charge at our flagship venue in Seenigama and the 12 empowerment Centres islandwide.

The provision of online lessons has opened a brand new avenue of empowerment for the Foundation of Goodness, allowing us to reach communities that were unable to previously access our courses due to long distances that need to be travelled. We hope to continue to offer our beneficiaries the option and opportunity to study online, even after health guidelines ease.

However, the glaring digital divide cannot be ignored, as many rural Sri Lankans do not have easy access to the internet and often lose out not just on our courses, but their formal education as well. Our coordinators and staff have home delivered work for all those unable to access the internet and join our courses as an attempt to ensure no beneficiary gets left behind but the problem as a whole remains unsolved and underprioritized here in Sri Lanka.

The Foundation of Goodness continues to reach out to the most rural communities in Sri Lankan and implement our holistic rural development model, in our attempt to bridge the gap between urban and rural Sri Lanka.
