Hundreds of children and youth in Sri Lanka face many difficulties with affording the essential items they need to start the new school year. The pandemic has only exacerbated their situation, with families struggling to put food on the table and everyday amenities have now become a luxury.

Every year since inception in 1999, the Foundation of Goodness has provided rural students in Sri Lanka with essential school supplies such as stationery, school shoes vouchers and uniform material after hearing heartbreaking stories of students not being able to attend school due to the lack of these items. What started out with 50 packs to the rural students of Seenigama has now grown to a staggering 7,663 essential school bags distributed for the 2022 school year, spanning 21 districts, bringing joy to thousands of rural school students in need.

This year’s essential school supplies project has been extraordinarily successful with kind donors reaching out to us not just from Sri Lanka but from around the world, helping us to reach out to as many rural school children as possible. We have now provided over 55,000 essential school supplies bags to rural students across the country since inception.

We would like to especially highlight our top three donors this year, who enabled us to fulfill more appeals than ever before:

Royal Institute International School

API Foundation

Children Action

The happiness we witnessed across 21 districts this year cannot be put into words. We thank each and every one of our donors for their generosity and look forward to reaching out to even more rural students in need this year.

“The depth of generosity is the real test of humanity”
