Many children in rural Sri Lanka travel long distances to attend school. Prior to the crisis, they received a meal during school hours funded by the Government. This meal was essential and greatly benefitted the students, ensuring they had the energy to focus on their studies. Additionally, students from low income families were guaranteed a meal in school, even if their families could not afford all three meals.
Therefore, when the economic crisis struck and the school meals programme was halted by the Government, several rural students were greatly affected. As part of the Feed the Hungry initiative, the Foundation of Goodness has begun providing school meals to deserving rural schools across the country.
We began with 2022 children on Children’s Day 2022!
Since then, we have provided over 500 students with meals in recent weeks which more than 1000 scheduled for the upcoming weeks.
The Foundation of Goodness has completed the provision of nutritious meals to 3,428 students.
