June 29, 2022After 23 years of empowerment activity in Sri Lanka, the Foundation of Goodness has often been inspired by the way small donations and acts of kindness can make the biggest difference to someone’s life.
Today, we celebrate 3 success stories, with beginnings in the humblest of areas.
Yakub
Yakub is the son of a garbage collector, who passed the Grade 5 scholarship exam and entered Royal College Colombo. Through an appeal, the Foundation of Goodness donated a laptop for his further education.
A few days ago, we were delighted to learn that Yakub has been hired as a Call Centre Operator at HSBC. We are extremely proud of his hard work and dedication that had led him to this position. The Foundation of Goodness donated an office chair, to complete his work from home set up and wish him all the best.
Kalugala Abhilash Eranda
Kalugala Abhilash Eranda is from Hikkaduwa and was a member of the Lahiru Preschool at our flagship venue the Centre of Excellence in Seenigama. At the Lahiru Preschool, students learn integral life skills and values in addition to educational lessons free of charge. Many rural students greatly benefit from this preschool experience.
We are happy to announce now that Abhilash has been accepted to the Southern University in the Commerce Stream. Thanks to kind donors, we have been able to award him with an educational scholarship, encouraging him to pursue his higher education.
Resandu Chamod Pehesara
A member of our staff who herself had studied at the Centre of Excellence in Seenigama proudly presented an innovative coconut stove created by her son, who is just 14 years old. He had learned the process online and replicated it at home, modifying the traditional cooking stove so that it could be regulated to control the flame. The cement base of the stoves were also done by him.
Resnadu is an active member of the Children’s Good Values Initiative at the Centre of Excellence and is very creative. To make this creation, fans were taken out of discarded old computer’s, an old rice cooker pot and the outer cover was made of cement, coconut shell and charcoal.
Previously, he had linked all old UPSs and powered a few bulbs during a power cut! We hope to support and encourage this creativity.
