As many rural Sri Lankans struggle with limited access to clean drinking water, we are in the process of ensuring that these people are not deprived of this essential resource. While some may take water for granted because it is readily available to them, we know that many people from disadvantaged communities across Sri Lanka must travel long distances to fetch safe water that is suitable for human consumption. The setting up of Reverse-Osmosis Water Purification Plants, is a viable solution to this pressing matter, and this is exactly what we’ve done, with the support of our generous donors.

Over the years, we have undertaken various water-related projects, including but not limited to, the installation of pipe-borne water connections in rural communities, construction of wells and tube wells, and establishment of sanitation infrastructure. Among these initiatives, RO Water Plants hold significant importance in addressing the challenges of limited access to water faced by a large community of people all at once.

As we understand that access to clean drinking water is a basic necessity for all, in the past year alone, we have successfully managed to implement three RO Water Purification projects sponsored by the generosity of our donors.

RO Water Plant in Thanthirimale

Thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Reece Foundation introduced by Pimp My Tuk Tuk to the Foundation of Goodness, we have managed to establish a Reverse-Osmosis Water Purification Plant in Thanthirimale, located in the Anuradhapura District. This plant is benefitting nine villages in the surrounding areas. Our data reveals that the consumption of contaminated water over a prolonged period has resulted in Chronic Kidney Disease affecting 12 people in these villages. However, with the opening of this new RO Plant, a total of 1,960 individuals from 485 families in the area now have access to clean drinking water.

RO Water Plant in Walapanegama (Buttala)

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, Murtaza and Avanti Esufally, a Reverse-Osmosis Water Purification Plant was installed in Walapanegama, Buttala, located in the Monaragala District. This plant is benefiting five villages in the region. Our research indicates that the prolonged consumption of contaminated water has led to a high incidence of Chronic Kidney Disease among 20 people in these villages, which is a cause for concern. However, with the establishment of this new RO Plant, a total of 1,800 individuals from 450 families in the area now have access to clean drinking water.

RO Water Plant in Athimale

With the generous sponsorship from one of our main donors, Finnia of the OYOB Group, we’ve constructed a Reverse-Osmosis Water Purification Plant in Athimale, located in the Monaragala District. This plant is benefitting four villages in the area. Our data indicates that the prolonged consumption of contaminated water has resulted in Chronic Kidney Disease affecting six people in these villages. However, with the establishment of this new RO Plant, a total of 1,610 individuals from 400 families in the area now have access to clean drinking water.

As of today (March 24th), we are operating 14 RO Water Purification Plants throughout Sri Lanka. These plants have proven to be of immense value, benefiting over 11,610 individuals who would have otherwise been deprived of access to clean drinking water.
