Who We Are

The Foundation of Goodness is a not-for-profit NGO registered in both Sri Lanka and USA. It was set up by Kushil Gunasekera in 1999, to provide essential services to his ancestral village of Seenigama. Since then, he has been joined by a dedicated Board of Trustees and a committed team based in Seenigama and Colombo, all working together with villagers and donors to uplift the lives of rural communities in Sri Lanka.

Vision: To create a sustainable community model designed to inspire other regions and empower disadvantaged communities throughout the globe.

Mission: To empower the less privileged rural communities, whilst inculcating the spirit of goodness, so that they may have equal opportunities to excel in life.

  • The Trustees contribute in numerous ways to the strategic direction and operational plans for the Foundation of Goodness, with a major focus on creating an environment which engenders learning opportunities for disadvantaged rural children and youth.

    Since the tsunami recovery projects began winding down late 2007, the Trustees are now focusing on the MCC Centre of Excellence and the Seenigama Sports Academy, both of which offer a wealth of opportunity for skills development in a wide range of areas.

    FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY

The Foundation of Goodness adheres to the highest standards of financial accountability and reporting.  Annual audits are conducted by a firm of Chartered Accountants.

Our funding partners and major donors are given the annual audited accounts on request or submitted with our proposals for donor evaluation.  Additionally, we present periodical progress reports to the donors as required along with an update of the grant disbursements including photographs.

We do not levy any admin cost for educational & sports scholarships, supply of electricity and water connections to the less privilege, aid relief, schools development initiatives, healthcare grants, sporting equipment, children’s welfare activities, livelihood projects where the entire amount is credited to those undertakings.

Major portion of our funding at least 60% have originated by word of mouth because of the way in which we have been accountable, transparent and the ability to surpass donor expectations.

NORTH DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

Over the course of 2011, the Foundation of Goodness has worked relentlessly to make a difference to the lives of people in the Northern Provinces of Sri Lanka; lives which were devastated by the 30 year civil war.

Working in the Mankulam, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, Jaffna and Eastern areas of Sri Lanka since January 2011, the Foundation of Goodness has positively affected over 37,321 beneficiaries through a variety of projects and programmes including the gifting of 8,226 essential school packs, 3,922 bicycles and the betterment of countless lives through livelihood programmes, sports workshops, agricultural provision, essential food package distribution, school infrastructure projects (library, computer and sanitation), and the gifting of essential household items, clothing, computers for girls, musical instruments for school children and sports equipment.

We have incurred an admin cost of 10% for the above coordinated programmes in the north facilitating the rebuilding of lives speedily.

North Learning & Empowerment Institute

The Foundation of Goodness based on the success in the south is presently establishing a similar model 'The North Learning & Empowerment Institute' in Panikkankulam in th Mankulam Region - another special institute aimed at rural empowerment with the long term in mind.
