One of the first projects initiated by the Foundation of Goodness, in 1999, the origins of the Medical Centre lies in a maternity clinic in association with the Medical Officer for Health (MOH), Hikkaduwa, that was established since many of these ladies had to walk long distances to access such a clinic.
After the Tsunami, provision of medical care was a top priority. In 2005, a group of US volunteers, which included two paediatric specialists, Jugtha and Deepa, established the Medical Centre and a Dental Clinic was added in 2007. The Centre provides for the well-being of the entire region.
