Cricket Seenigama Southern Province Division III winnersCricket Seenigama – a fruit of the Foundation of Goodness, which has uplifted the lives of the underprivileged in Seenigama in the aftermath of the 2004 tsunami – made big strides when they won the Southern Province Division III Cricket tournament, beating Matara SC by 137 runs in the final recently. In the final, Cricket Seenigama won the toss and elected to bat first, scoring 243 all out in 41.4 overs. Akila Udesh top scored with a half-century, with D Sampath and Layan Eranga also making contributions. P Menaka accounted for four wickets for 49 runs for Matara SC. In reply, Matara SC were bowled out for 106 in 33.1 overs, with Prabath Nishantha, Akila Udesh, BA Suneth and Shyam Prasanna bagging two wickets each, giving Seenigama a 137-run win. The Foundation, which was started by Philanthropist Kushil Gunasekara, has overseen the growth of several young cricketers, some of whom have now moved into the domestic circuit, also benefiting from the support of seasoned cricketers like Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara and Muttiah Muralitharan, who have contributed their expertise and knowledge towards the development of these cricketers.
