Best Performers Felicitation The Foundation of Goodness originated as a small scale project, which grew out of Founder/ Chief Trustee Kushil Gunasekera’s wish to provide better opportunities for his fellow villagers in Seenigama to excel in life. Therefore, some of the earliest programmes we introduced included academic and vocational courses to help beneficiaries develop skills and talents that would help them succeed academically and build successful careers and valuable means of income. Over the past 15 years the programmes, courses and activities offered by the Foundation continued to grow, and every year we delighted in the numbers of students graduating from our various courses. These courses have produced outstanding individuals who have excelled beyond our greatest expectations and broken down socio-cultural barriers. Over the years, we have produced national and international level sportsmen and women, electrical students who have won awards as innovators, female divers and electricians who challenged existing gender roles and expectations by entering fields which were traditionally male dominated and many others who have won awards and competed in international contests and competitions. We at FoG wish to motivate our beneficiaries to continue to excel, and for each new generation of students to reach for even higher goals. This year, in an attempt to encourage their enthusiasm to succeed and reward their hard work, the Foundation introduced a programme to felicitate the best performers from the different courses and programmes in 2013 and 2014. The felicitation ceremony took place on the 19th of February, 2015, and in attendance was FoG’s special guest Mr. Thushan Jayaratna from KreativeRights who delivered a motivational speech for the students present and a special speech was given by eight year old Sethika Kapuge about the importance of English. Through this programme FoG hopes to encourage all the students who participate in our courses to not only give it their all, but to also think outside the box, and beyond glass ceilings and socio-cultural limitations to make their lives, their community and the world a better place.
