Workshops for FoG by Volunteer Nivendra Here at the Foundation of Goodness, we are always looking for new ways to grow, and improve and as such, always welcome volunteers who want to impart some of their knowledge and expertise with us. Nivendra Uduman joined us in Seenigama in June and conducted a variety of programmes for our sectors including first aid for the IT sector, Lahiru pre-school and the Electrical Installation & Maintenance sector, a rescue aid workshop for the Seenigama Diving & Training Centre and a two day mental health workshop for the Community Psycho-Social Unit The programmes took place between 9 am and 4 pm on the 11th, 12th and 13th June. Everyone who attended the workshops were deeply impressed by the wealth of information they had gained, and Ushani sent us the following letter of thanks; “First of all, I would like to thank you for organizing this program for us. Mr. Nivendra did a very good job on that day. The participants were staff members & students of IT, pre-school, electronic, diving, sports and maintenance sector. There were two volunteers also present. In the beginning of the program, Mr. Nivendra introduced the major facts of First Aid to us: “Who Is A First-Aider?” & “How To Give CPR?” It is very necessary to us because we may have to face such accidents in our working place or elsewhere. When it happens, we may be able to save a life if we have this knowledge. Furthermore, we did practicals which made things easier to understand. We learnt how to give CPR to unconscious victims, how we should react when we meet a person who has been bitten by a snake, current shocked person, an accident victim, etc. In addition, Mr. Nivendra conducted a special rescue aid workshop at the swimming pool only for our divers after conducting the first aid program. It was very essential for them. Mr. Nivendra conducted the program very well. Our staff members & students gave their full attention in order to make the program a success. In their comments, they all said that they now have a good knowledge in first aid. I give much thanks & appreciation to Mr. Nivendra and FoG for organizing these workshops for staff & students. Nivendra himself was deeply touched by his experience, and was enthusiastic to conduct more workshops in the future. I really enjoyed working with the CPU team, and they seemed quite tuned into what they do. There is so much potential to do great work in the community and they seemed really receptive to the training that was offered. I am so happy I got to meet them. They themselves have experienced difficult circumstances in their lives and yet they are positive and energetic and that is very inspiring. I would definitely love to go back and work with them for a longer period of time. There is so much that can be done. I am also very happy about the first aid/ lifesaving training. It was such a joyous experience. I am ever ready to do it again! I was quite awe struck at the level of synchronicity present at FoG Seenigama. Everything functions so well. Everyone is tuned into the needs of the community and there is that burning need to serve. I was so touched by your staff, at all the different centres within MCC. They were so friendly, accommodating and warm. I even got my teeth cleaned. I was also quite interested in the gift economy/ pay it forward system that exists at MCC. I noticed that dental patients for example are invited to leave a donation so that the next person can get their teeth attended to free of charge. I was involved in a community that followed this principle while in India and there was some wonderful work that happened. There is so much of compassion and kindness in the hearts of your people! :) Finally, thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve, and I did learn a great deal as a result. Also, Podi and Ravindra, thank you for taking good care of me. I really am grateful. I definitely want to go back!
