Shoes that Grow with Michael Jackson’s Legacy – UK

Michael Jackson’s Legacy (MJL) is a charitable organisation dedicated to continuing Michael Jackson's humanitarian legacy and thereby making the world a better place.  Michael Jackson inspired love, hope and compassion worldwide through his music as well as his humanitarian work on behalf of the suffering and underprivileged. Now, even 8 years after his passing, a dedicated group of his fans in UK continue to carry out humanitarian activities in his name.

The Foundation of Goodness was first introduced to Michael Jackson’s Legacy during our 2015 fundraiser to distribute Essential School Supplies Packs to rural underprivileged kids ahead of the new school year in 2016.

The members of MJL poured their hearts into the 200 school packs they were able to fund and even sent postcards with the names of everyone who donated towards this cause as well as special handmade key tags designed by Cynthia Kent to be handed out to the kids along with the school packs.

This year, the organization had a new project in mind- shoes that grow! The Shoe That Grows is a sandal invented by Kenton Lee (USA) that can adjust its size, allowing children in impoverished nations to grow up without having to go barefoot. The shoes can grow 5 sizes and last at least 5 years.

100 pairs of the Shoe That Grows were donated by Michael Jackson’s Legacy and distributed amongst rural and extremely impoverished children from the Central Region of Sri Lanka whose parents are estate workers, employed as tea-pluckers and labourers at tea estates. Once again, Cynthia Kent sent pairs of beautifully hand decorated socks to be distributed along with the shoes.

The children, who often run around barefoot because they cannot afford footwear were absolutely delighted and beaming smiles lit up their little faces as they skipped home happily with their brand new shoes.

A big thank you goes out to Michael Jackson’s Legacy- UK, especially Anusha Seneviratne and Dee Pfeiffer who led this wonderful initiative that elevated the living standards of so many young kids, safeguarding them from diseases that could be contracted by going barefoot and bringing such happy smiles to these young faces!
