Kadambari Jewelry Supports the Mathagal Village Heartbeat Empowerment Project

Owner and designer of Kadambari Jewelry Rashantha Devanesan from Singapore organized a special Jewelry Sale in Singapore earlier this year with all proceeds from the sale going towards the running costs of the Mathagal Village Heartbeat Empowerment Centre (Jaffna)- Foundation of Goodness’ very first Centre to open in Northern Sri Lanka and 7th overall for FoG).

Inspired by thousands of years of jewelry worn by ancient Indian, Central and South Asian Cultures, the Kadambari collections only use natural materials in the form of  precious and semi-precious gemstones, beads and metals to design and craft unique, one of a kind pieces.

The sale, which was titled "Silver Treasures from the Land of Sheba" showcased a very special collection sourced from and inspired by the jewelry of Yemen and was held at the Colonial at Scotts on Scotts road, Singapore where Rashantha herself was available to discuss the influences and inspiration for each piece.

FoG Founder/ Chief Trustee Kushil Gunasekera was also present at the event to raise awareness about the great cause Rashantha had pledged the proceeds of her sale to. After decades of civil conflict, there is a great need in the more rural and poverty stricken areas of northern Sri Lanka for educational, vocational and recreational opportunities for the children, women and youth who had been deprived of these resources for many years.

The Mathagal VHP Centre offers free of charge Computer/ IT, English Language, Sinhala Language, Science, Mathematics, Women’s Enterprise & Empowerment and Volleyball programmes to beneficiaries from the surrounding villages who find it difficult to access specialized programmes to develop their skills. The Centre also has a library to help the beneficiaries broaden their knowledge base and is home to a Children’s Goodness Club to ensure that the children and youth attending programmes understand the importance of doing good deeds that can help and benefit their community, for a brighter future.

A big thank you goes to Rashantha for her thoughtful initiative to support rural northern communities in Sri Lanka to make better progress in life.
