FoG Success Stories

For the Foundation of Goodness, it’s always a cause for celebration when one of our beneficiaries succeeds in life. Every milestone along their way, big or small, that bring them closer to their personal goals also bring us closer to achieving our vision of empowering rural villagers to succeed in life.

Two ladies who were able to achieve their dreams recently were Nimesha Sewwandi and Dedunu Apsara, both students who graduated from our Beauty Culture Course at the Women’s Enterprise and  Empowerment Centre who have gone on to open  their own Salons, now becoming business owners who are creating job opportunities that empower other regional women on their path to success.

Jayani Wasundara was a student of the FoG Bakery Course who utilised the knowledge and experience she gained from this class to lay the foundation for her future in the food industry. Using this as a launch pad for her career Wansundara has now been able to secure a position as the Assistant Pastry Chef at the prestigious Shangri-La Hotel in both Colombo and Hambantota.

In Mullaitivu, Northern Sri Lanka students who graduated from our newly introduced CCTV Course are using their skills to get ahead in life. Victor Jayamany who was in the first batch of students to graduate from the Oddusuddan VHE Centre CCTV Camera Installation and Repair course now works as a CCTV technician in Mullaitivu. Through this income he is able to support his whole family who have struggles since his father’s passing during the war.

In other good news, earlier this year we had the pleasure of presenting a pair of spiked shoes to long distance runner Sivanathan Kinthushan from the Vavuniya Tamil Maha Vidyalayam (North) and now we are absolutely delighted to share that he recently placed 3rd at the 5000m long distance event at the South Asian Junior Athletic Championship with a time of 16:18.43.

A big congratulations also goes to FoG cricketer, 17 year old Kaveesha Dilhari who was selected to play for the National Ladies Cricket Team in a home tournament against Pakistan. At 17, Kaveesha is the youngest player on the team was previously selected for a National U23 Ladies Cricket Team Tour to Thailand. She shows potential to achieve great things in the future and we are incredibly proud of her success.

Sakuni Amaya from the FoG Sports Academy has been selected as a member of the Sri Lanka U19 National Schools Netball Squad for the tour of Melbourne (Australia) taking place from 30th June to 09th July 2018.

Sasith Nipun Piyumantha is no stranger to our success story spotlight, and we have been privileged to be a part of his steady rise over the years. He is the youngest Sri Lankan Fide Master and was the Vice Captain of the National Under 14 Chess Team. Sasith recently had the honour of becoming the first ever Sri Lankan chess player to receive the highest medal in his or her category at an Asian Youth Championship when he brought home the Gold medal in the U16 Open category at the Asian Youth Chess Championship 2018 held in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
