Essential School Supply Packs (ESSP) creating brighter futures across Sri Lanka The Foundation of Goodness distributed 4108 school packs island-wide, ahead of the 2019 school year. A big thank you goes out to all our donors whose contributions large and small helped us to reach this milestone
In 2018, we undertook our ESSP campaign with renewed fervour after hearing of a young girl who took her own life when her family could not afford to have a school uniform sewn. It was a devastating story bringing home the impact of poverty on children, a tragedy that could, and most certainly should, have been avoided. We buckled down on our resolve to expand our Essential School Supplies Programme (ESSP) to as many children in need as possible. Whatever the obstacles that came our way to meet the ever-growing list of requests for ESSPs we determined to meet every single one. 2019 saw the highest number of Essential School Supply Packs delivered to students across the island. We covered all Provinces, travelling across the country delivering the packs to children from Schools, Community Based Organisations and our own Village Heartbeat Empowerment Centres. According to the most recent Poverty Indicators of the Department of Census and Statistics Household Income and Expenditure Survey of 2016, 92% of the contribution to total poverty is from the rural and estate sectors. In these underserved communities, new books, shoes and stationary is in fact a luxury, and a complete set of school supplies, right at the start of the academic year, can mean the difference between staying in school and dropping out. The Essential School Packs were donated to the following locations: Children's Goodness Club - Udumulla Each pack contained: 01 School Bag Reusable Water Bottle For just USD 25, you can support a child’s dream for education, and be a part of the Essential School Pack Drive for 2020.
