FoG Graduates for 2018

For the past 20 years the Foundation of Goodness has provided rural villages with the opportunity to train in vocational training, Information Technology, language classes and other skills that empower them with the tools they need to be independent and self-reliant. These lessons are not always taught in the classroom in the school environment, therefore FoG has a number of courses, for a wide range of age groups from school students to school leavers.

January is a month of celebration here at FoG, as we proudly celebrate the year of hard work that has passed with the graduation ceremonies for each of our centres. During the recent graduation ceremonies a total of 989 students passed out from the FoG courses. It was an especially heartfelt moment for us as each student goes out, into society better equipped to make their dreams a reality. 

Foundation of Goodness MCC Centre of Excellence, Business Skills Centre, Computer Centre and Dive Centre Graduation Ceremony saw 217 students receive certificates for completing their respective courses. Dr. Asokan Nagendran graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour and Dr. Naj Nagendran was the Chief Guest. It was a special day as Founder and Chief Trustee Kushil Gunasekera felicitated Dr. Naj Nagendran, who has been a long standing supporter of the Foundation. Congratulations to all our Graduates as they move forward armed with their freshly acquired skills. The students had completed courses in Electrical Installation and Maintenance, English language, Photography, Tamil language, Compeering, Micro Soft Office, Graphic Design and Diving.

The Women’s Empowerment and Enterprise Sector Bridal Show and certificate presentation, saw the 29 designers outshine themselves in an evening full of beautiful creations. Former Flight Training Manager of Sri Lankan Airlines Mrs. Damayanthi Peiris was the Chief Guest and was joined on the Judging Panel by Beauticians Mr. Baratha Indeera, Mr. Jayantha Marasinghe and Mrs. Malathi Eriyagama.

There were shows for the myriad of culturally diverse brides of Sri Lanka. Tamil, Muslim, Western, Up-Country Kandyan and Low-Country Bridal Shows along with a Going-Away Bridal Show decorated the evening. Our congratulations to the winners and we wish all our graduates the best of luck as they utilize this newly learnt skill to generate income for their families and empower themselves.

The Women’s Enterprise & Empowerment Centre graduation ceremony saw 194 ladies pass out of their respective courses. The graduation ceremony was accompanied by a product exhibition of the graduate’s hard work. This year students learnt Dress making, Beauty Culture, Baking, Culinary Studies, Curtain making and Saree work. Mrs Kumuduni De Silva, Chairperson of Sri Lanka Sumithrayo graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. While FoG Founder and Chief Trustee Kushil Gunasekera was an honoured guest and shared his pride in the graduates achievements.

The ladies spend 6 months learning a new skill, which will enable them to increase their earning potential. All vocational training courses are provided free of charge at our FoG Centres. To date, over 4500 women have been empowered to become independent, self-reliant women in a variety of fields

41 students from the Bandarawella Village Heartbeat Empowerment Centre graduated from  Dressmaking, Tamil language and Information Technology courses.

88 students from the Murukandy Village Heartbeat Empowerment Centre celebrated all the hard work that went into their Beauty Culture, Dressmaking, Sinhala language, Information Technology and English Language courses through a vibrant graduation Ceremony.

CEO of Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology Mr Harin De S. Wijeyeratne was the Chief Guest at the Rathgama Village Heartbeat Empowerment Centre graduation ceremony, where 115 students passed out from Dress Making, Tamil Language, Information Technology, English Language and Mathematics courses.

19 students from our Thirukkovil Village Heartbeat Empowerment Centre are now the proud owners of Information Technology certificates, increasing their chances in a competitive job market.

74 students graduated from the Mathagal Village Heartbeat Empowerment Centre’s Dressmaking, Sinhala Language, English Language and Information Technology courses.

143 students passed out from the Udumulla Village Heartbeat Empowerment Centre from Dressmaking, Tamil Language, Information Technology, English Language, Mathematics and Cookery

All FoG courses and training facilities are provided free of charge to our beneficiaries. It is our goal to bridge the gap between the rural and urban sector, creating equal opportunities for all.
We are so proud of the dedication and hard-work of all our graduates and welcome the new batch of students as we get ready for an exciting year ahead celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Foundation of Goodness.
