“Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today” – Malcolm X
The GCE Ordinary Level Examination, commonly known as O/Ls lays the foundation for higher education for all Sri Lankan students. Since 2020, with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, children across the globe have faced many challenges in terms of health and education, where their path towards academic success was disrupted on numerous occasions, with schools closed for prolonged periods. Despite such constraints, our students from the Village Heartbeat Empowerment Centres across the country have achieved great success this year!

It must also be mentioned that our beneficiary Vishmi Gunaratne, who captains the Under-19 Ladies National Cricket Team, achieved 9As at the 2021 O/L Exam, excelling in both academic studies as well as sports. She was one of our beneficiaries who trained at the FoG Sports Academy in Seenigama. We are truly proud of her!
All these achievements are so very commendable as our students from rural Sri Lanka had to continue their studies through an economic crisis, as well as the COVID-19 pandemic, whilst also withstanding daily power cuts that lasted for as long as 14-hours at times.
The concept of online learning methods, which was introduced to complete lessons and syllabi during the COVID-19 lockdown period, was a novel experience for children from under-developed countries like Sri Lanka. To make things even worse, the poor online connectivity, digital coverage and limited computer literacy meant most children from remote parts of the country were at a disadvantage, compared to those of the urban areas who had better access to computers, stable internet connectivity and of course the financial means to afford digital education.
As an organisation that prioritizes the education of children and youth of the rural disadvantaged communities, the Foundation of Goodness takes immense pride in extending our best wishes to the VHE beneficiaries who passed the 2021 O/L Exam with flying colours!
At the same time, for all the students who couldn’t achieve the results they targeted, do not be disheartened. There are numerous opportunities for you out there!
A single exam doesn’t necessarily determine your future.
