At the Foundation of Goodness, our commitment to uplifting the lives of the most vulnerable members of society is unwavering. This week, we shine a spotlight on two extraordinary homes we support: Sujatha Elder Home and Meth Sewa Foundation. These homes provide a haven for elderly individuals and those with special needs, ensuring they receive the care and support they deserve.

Sujatha Elder Home

Established in 2005 through the perseverance of Dr U. A. Swarna Priyanthi, Sujatha Elder Home emerged in response to the growing elderly population in the Western Province of Sri Lanka. Inspired by her childhood ambition to create a supportive environment for the elderly, Dr Priyanthi founded the first home with just four residents.

Today, Sujatha Elder Homes operates more than ten branches across Sri Lanka, providing shelter and care to over 400 elderly individuals. The Kalutara branch alone accommodates 84 residents. Many of these individuals have been abandoned by their families due to the high cost of care, making the support from Sujatha Elder Homes invaluable. Donors play a crucial role in this endeavour, with some contributing towards daily meals in memory of loved ones, while others consistently cover monthly grocery shortfalls. This collective effort ensures that the residents receive nutritious meals and live with care.

Meth Sewa Foundation

The Meth Sewa Foundation in Moneragala is a sanctuary for people with special needs and disabilities. Founded by Niroshan, who generously opened his home to individuals with mental and physical handicaps, Meth Sewa provides a nurturing environment where residents can learn and grow as a family. Niroshan and his wife personally care for 130 individuals, each with unique needs, stretching their resources thin. The Foundation of Goodness first connected with Meth Sewa in 2015, recognising the incredible service Niroshan and his family were providing. Our initial support helped sustain them with essential monthly necessities such as food and water. Through the generosity of our donors, we have been able to ease the burden on Niroshan and improve the standard of living for the residents. We now ensure that their monthly groceries, physiotherapy expenses, and cleaning supply costs are covered.

Ongoing Commitment

The Foundation of Goodness remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting Sujatha Elder Home and Meth Sewa Foundation. Our goal is to continue providing financial and in-kind assistance to meet the basic needs of underprivileged individuals, grant scholarships to deserving children, build houses for the homeless, and launch various social service programmes.

Through the unwavering support of our donors and volunteers, we strive to create a brighter, more compassionate future for the residents of Sujatha Elder Home and Meth Sewa Foundation. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of Sri Lanka’s most vulnerable populations.
