One of the main avenues the Foundation of Goodness focuses on is rural sports development. We believe that rural children often do not get the opportunity to harness their hidden sporting talents, experience the thrill of playing a sport and furthering their sporting dreams. Therefore, the Foundation of Goodness, has worked extensively to identify young talent in rural Sri Lanka, nurture it and guide it in every possible way to reach its full potential.

Therefore, nothing makes us prouder than when our players succeed. The year 2020 has been an astounding year for us in the field of cricket! Four of our very own boys represented Sri Lanka at the U19 ICC Cricket World Cup held in South Africa. They are, Navod Paranavithana from Mahinda College Galle as the Vice-Captain of the U19 Team, Kavindu Nadeeshan from Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda, Dilum Sudeera from Richmond College, Galle and last but not least, Ravindu Rasantha who started off at Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda and is now in S.Thomas’ College, Mt Lavinia. These 4 players have regularly attended our Tokyo Cement Sponsored South Coaching Camps and in addition, 3 of the players have received our MCC Scholarship!

We are also immensely proud of Ravindu Rasantha, who has been named to the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup team of the tournament! Second in the overall scoring charts, after Indian player Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ravindu Rasantha’s total of 286 runs from six innings would likely have topped the table in most other circumstances. The team performed well and gained many new experiences, as they went on to the finals of the Plate League.

Not to be outdone by the boys, 4 outstanding ladies from our Seenigama Ladies Cricket Squad have also been selected to represent the Sri Lanka National Team for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup which commences on the 15th of February 2020! We congratulate, Umasha Thimeshani (Seenigama Ladies Team Captain 2019 ), Anushka Sanjeewani,  Kavisha Dilhari and Satya Sandeepani, while wishing them every success in the upcoming tournament.

Last but certainly not least, Ramesh Mendis who has been a Foundation of Goodness sponsored cricketer from a young age by way of the MCC scholarship, recently scored an unbeaten double century on the opening day of the SLC Major League Tier A Inter- Club Cricket Tournament! Our heartiest congratulations go out to the promising cricketer from Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda, who has also represented Sri-Lanka in the Under 19 World Cup, Emerging Team and the Sri Lanka A Team.
