Sport is more than just physical activities; it is a gateway to personal growth, social development, and invaluable life skills. In rural areas, where resources might be limited, providing access to sports activities becomes an investment in the well-being and future of the community. Through sports, children learn the importance of discipline, teamwork, perseverance, and leadership. These qualities transcend the playing field, nurturing them into responsible and confident individuals.

At the Foundation of Goodness, we believe that in the heart of rural communities lies an untapped potential – Sports also offer a unique platform for nurturing talent. Who knows if the next cricket superstar or Olympic champion is unable to discover their skills in a remote village? By providing proper coaching and mentorship, rural communities can tap into this potential and open door to a world of possibilities. This not only boosts the children’s self-esteem but also instils a sense of hope and aspiration, inspiring them to dream big. However, when it comes to sports in rural communities, they are often overshadowed by more urban areas, who get more in terms of opportunities, facilities and infrastructure. This is the gap that the Foundation of Goodness works tirelessly to bridge.

With over 15 years of experience, the Foundation of Goodness has not only driven sports excellence and competition success but also continuously promoted an active rural youth lifestyle, fostered regional engagement, and provided advantages to impoverished communities through foreign participation. We are constantly applying modern training approaches to hone talent by focusing on nutrition, mental resilience, fitness, and physiotherapy, ensuring effective sports program development through continuous monitoring and evaluation.

This year the Foundation of Goodness is honored to take on the expansion and enhancement of sporting activities at the University of Vavuniya Sports Complex. This involves upgrading the current infrastructure and devising a comprehensive plan for various sports and more. The areas of sports (men and women) hope to be associated with as of now are:

  • Cricket
  • Badminton
  • Basketball
  • Table Tennis
  • Judo
  • Football
  • Hockey
  • Rugby
  • Netball
  • Athletics

With the aim of transforming the University of Vavuniya grounds and sports complex into a prominent sports hub for the Northern Province. Its strategic location positions it to serve Mannar, Anuradhapura, and the East Coast as well. This extended reach will provide diverse communities with access to these facilities and training opportunities, enabling them to excel and gain significant exposure. We are also excited to engage foreign teams that already visit the Foundation of Goodness Sports Complex in the South, further enriching the experience.

As we recognize the significance of sports in rural empowerment especially in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka and allow us work hand in hand to provide every child, regardless of their background, with the chance to experience the transformative magic of sports and empower children to reach their dreams and bring pride not on to their community but also possibly to the Nation.
