The Foundation of Goodness has always been a catalyst for empowerment through sports, offering children from rural villages the opportunity to discover and prove their talent both locally and internationally by giving them the access to facilities and expertise, that they might not have had otherwise. Among the success stories, our most recent rising star is Rishini Theekshana, an exceptionally talented 8-year-old athlete who has recently made waves in the highly competitive world of swimming.

Rishini discovered her passion for swimming early on at the Bryan Adam Foundation Swimming Pool Complex. She soon joined the Foundation of Goodness Swim Team, where she honed her skills under the guidance of dedicated coaches and mentors. It was a journey that would soon take her to remarkable heights.

Rishini’s moment of triumph came recently at the All-Island Schools Swimming Championships held at the Sugathadasa Pool Complex from August 23rd to 27th, 2023. Competing in the U-10 age category for backstroke, she displayed exceptional prowess in the water, clinching the coveted 1st place island-wide. Her dedication, countless hours of training, and unwavering determination had paid off in a resounding victory.

But Rishini’s journey was far from over. Her outstanding performance did not go unnoticed and in recognition of her extraordinary achievements, Rishini was awarded a scholarship to attend Lyceum International School in Colombo. This scholarship not only acknowledges her remarkable swimming skills but also opens doors to a bright future full of educational opportunities.

Rishini’s aspirations extend far beyond the pool. With a vision that transcends her young age, she dreams of one day bringing an Olympic medal to her beloved Sri Lanka. Her ambition to make a significant impact on her nation’s sporting landscape is both inspiring and a testament to her unwavering dedication to her sport.

This journey from a rural community to becoming a rising star in the world of competitive swimming is a testament to the transformative power of sports. It brings us great joy to see young individuals like Rishini being given the opportunity to pursue their dreams, break barriers, and create a brighter future for themselves and their communities.

This success story serves as a reminder that talent knows no boundaries, and with the right support and opportunities, individuals can achieve greatness regardless of where they come from. Rishini’s journey is not only a source of pride for her and her family but also an inspiration for aspiring athletes across Sri Lanka. Her story is a shining example of the potential that lies within us all, waiting to be unleashed with the right support and encouragement.
