Another 6 months has flown by and the OYOB Centre of Excellence is proud to announce that over 200 students from the rural locality have completed their respective courses, despite the many challenges in Sri Lanka.

Through sheer determination and the will to improve their lives, they have overcome power outages, the extreme rise in the cost of living and unavailability of fuel to attend classes and complete their theory and practical examinations.

29th Graduation Ceremony of the Women’s Empowerment Centre

The graduation ceremony was held at the OYOB Centre of Excellence in Seenigama under the auspices of Ms Dedunu Kariyawasam as the Chief Guest, along with Founder Mr. Kushil Gunasekera.

We are extremely proud of the 113 students from 54 rural villages who completed courses such as dressmaking, sewing, food processing and beauty culture offered free of charge at the Women’s Empowerment Centre. The event was highlighted by the customary bridal show and mini-market which showcases the new skills of the graduates.

We also especially note the special needs students who graduated from the beauty culture and food processing courses at this graduation ceremony. Thanks to the hard work of our staff and the student’s themselves, they worked since January and were thrilled to graduate. They have inspired two more students from the Finding Dreams Unit to pursue courses at the Centre.

33rd Graduation Ceremony of the Business Skills and Computer Centre

137 students from 52 rural villages graduated from the IT & Business Skills Centre after successfully completing their 6 month courses! This includes web design, coding, MS Office, photography, public speaking, electrical maintenance and more.

We were honoured to have Ms Udari Chamika, a former beneficiary of the Centre has the Chief Guest, along with Founder Kushil Gunasekera. We hope that these new skills open many new doors of opportunity for our graduates from rural Sri Lanka.
