In a significant step towards fostering a thriving sports culture in the Northern Region of Sri Lanka, the Foundation of Goodness is proud to unveil two more state of the art sports facilities at the University of Vavuniya Multisport Complex.

Following the recent opening of the Gymnasium, we are honored to unveil the state-of-the-art Basketball Court. The completion of this remarkable facility stands as a testament to the unwavering dedication of The Tanoto Foundation towards empowering sporting infrastructure in the Northern Region of Sri Lanka.

The grand unveiling of the Basketball Court was a moment of pride and celebration. At the event, national player Epciba Washington Clay, who also hails from the Northern Region, graced the occasion. She not only symbolized the region’s proud sporting heritage but also participated in an exciting basketball match with the University students, adding a touch of professional excellence to the event.

Furthermore, an exhibition basketball match was played by the students of the Applied Science, Technological Studies, and Business Studies departments at the University of Vavuniya. Their enthusiasm and skill were on full display, exemplifying the potential and passion that sports can ignite in the youth.

But the excitement didn’t end there. The occasion was not only about basketball; it also marked the unveiling of the Badminton Courts at the University of Vavuniya Multi-sports Complex, graciously sponsored by Vanni Hope. The 2 renovated courts and one newly built court are truly a cut above the rest and are set to redefine the sporting landscape of the Northern Province. The ceremonius opening was led by Dr. Malathy Waran, the Director of Vanni Hope, Professor Mangaleshwaran, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Vavuniya, and Mr. Kushil Gunasekera, the Founder/Chief Trustee of the Foundation of Goodness.

Today, we stand on the cusp of a new era, where the dreams of countless young athletes and community members can soon become a reality. With the addition of top-notch badminton facilities, the Multi-sports Complex is poised to become a hub of sporting excellence, providing opportunities for the youth to hone their skills and aspirations.

These facilities are a shining testament to our unwavering commitment to providing top-tier sporting infrastructure to the Northern region. The Tanoto Foundation and Vanni Hope’s collaboration has resulted in an achievement these facilities would not have come to fruition. We are currently looking for generous donors who would like to join hands with us to build the Cricket grounds, Swimming Pool, Hockey, Tennis, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Judo/Karate, Rugby, Football and Athletics facilities.

Together, with the generosity of our sponsors and rural communities, we are creating a brighter future for the youth of the Northern Province through the power of sports and community development. The sporting facilities unveiled on this momentous day will not only enable budding athletes to excel but will also foster a sense of community and pride, making the Northern Region of Sri Lanka a vibrant and thriving hub of sports and opportunity.
