Despite the many difficulties prevailing in the country, the U19 cricket team of the British School in Colombo were determined to visit the OYOB Centre of Excellence in Seenigama. They arrived for a day full of community service, learning and fun!
The day began with a guided tour around the Centre of Excellence, which showcases our holistic rural development model, empowering rural beneficiaries via free courses in a variety of sectors such as Women’s Empowerment, Computer Training, Dental Clinic, the Finding Needs Special Needs Unit, Photography and more.
They also visited the Sports Academy, which provides free sports courses to rural beneficiaries. They learnt about the various rural sports development initiatives and women in sport programmes underway! They also played an intense game of T20 cricket with the FoG team, testing their skills against the rural students at our Centre.
After a hearty village meal, they visited the Foundation of Goodness Dive for Good Centre and conducted a beach clean up with the divers-in-training of the Dive for Good Centre. They also learnt more about how the Centre empowers rural youth by providing a free course for them to become professional divers.
We also greatly appreciate their kind donation of Rs. 100,000 and many essential items for those struggling during this difficult time. These were distributed in the Goodness Boxes programme for rural villages in need.
Many of the students truly realised the disparity between urban and rural areas in Sri Lanka and left the Centre more grateful for all the blessings in their lives!
