The Essential School Supplies Programme for the year 2022 is the Foundation of Goodness’ longest running campaign and has become one of our most important initiatives. This year, more than ever before, an overwhelming number of requests have been registered, exacerbated by COVID-19 and resulting economic hardship in Sri Lanka.

Many rural Sri Lankan students are in urgent need of support to obtain school uniforms, shoes, basic stationery items and other necessities ahead of the new school year starting in January 2022. At USD 20, the school pack will provide a year’s worth of essential items for these most deserving students, helping them stay in school.

At such a time, when we are struggling to meet the endless inundation of requests flowing in from across the island, the heavy burden was made lighter with the help of the Royal Institute of Colombo. We would like to highlight the remarkable contribution made by the educational institution towards this project, donating 2,500 essential school packs in celebration of their 50th Anniversary.

Through an extraordinary effort since the beginning of this year, the Royal Institute rallied their students, parents, staff and alumni to come together and contribute towards this timely and essential initiative.  They conducted awareness campaigns, competitions and other programmes in order to become our biggest supporters ever, contributing Rs.10 million to the initiative, ensuring over 2,500 rural school children can stay in school.

The Royal Institute is the first ever educational institution to partner with the Essential School Supplies Programme in commemorating an anniversary and fundraising towards such a lofty goal, understanding the privilege that many school children in urban areas experience in comparison to rural Sri Lanka. We are truly grateful to the Royal Institute for choosing the Essential School Supplies Project, allowing us to help thousands of children in need.

A special thanks to Mr. G.T Bandara, Dr. Nirodha and their team for understanding the value of education and initiating the Generous Hearts Initiative, for what better way to celebrate 50 years of excellence as an educational institution than by extending the capacity for education and knowledge to even more children.

Over the past years, the Foundation of Goodness has provided over 47,000 essential school supplies packs to rural students all over Sri Lanka and look forward to raising this number to 50,000+ with the upcoming distribution for the 2022 school year.
